Antique 18THC Needlework Sampler by Margaret Hill 1796 Silk on Linen Embroidery 19thcA lovely Georgian period sampler made in England 1796. The piece is made from linen with silk thread needlework. The detail is very good and is signed by Margaret Hill. It has been preserved under glass which has recently been replaced by previous owner. The sampler was one of three from a family collection we purchased in St Ives Cambridgeshire. This sampler is the earliest dated one. Condition is good for the age. There is some fading to the silk

There are not any large chips

There is some loss to the enamel to the figures hair

There is a small chip to the bottom foot rim

“Why then do you hesitate to carry the cross for me

including spatter glass

Condition inspection found the only damage is to the gentleman's left thumb otherwise excellent condition with no other chips cracks or restoration
